Sophia was born and brought up in Glasgow and moved to Edinburgh in 1980’s and shortly after started working for Edinburgh City Council in the busy community charge team and dealing with the public directly. This is when she became passionate about community work and lead her to work within the voluntary sector. She is a caring and doting mother and wife as well as a respected and well- known figure in the wider community.

Sophia has a solid understanding of the issues effecting elderly South Asian communities and their carers through her different roles within Milan, working her way to become Manager and having behind her years of experience and a good understanding of barriers effecting our communities.

Sophia’s dedication and commitment has not been short of challenges through funding cutbacks leading to staff shortages and a demand for services growing to outstrip capacity. Through her drive and motivation and overcoming these obstacles, Milan has been exceeding targets, delivering outstanding outcomes and providing a quality service next to none.

Most importantly Sophia has established a good rapport with service users, volunteers, funders, and built an excellent support mechanism within the staff team. Her aim is to make positive differences in people’s lives and combat social exclusion and meet the needs of the elderly.
