Zahra Ahmad is a 9 years old girl from Livingston, West Lothian who raised money for charity during the Muslim month of Ramadan. Zahra pledged to fast everyday for 10 hours and to wear a headscarf to school and all extra curricular activities. She done amazingly well as she got so much of the community involved in her work. Along with her pledge, Zahra sold some charity merchandise using her sales skills, to help bring up the total. Zahra got her Brownies (girl guides) club involved and raised money by providing henna services and selling merchandise. Zahra also organised a dress down day at her martial arts club and set up a guess the number of dates competition. Throughout Ramadan photos and videos were taken of Zahra and updates of the amounts raised were sent out. Zahra was recognised by Nasim Azad for her tremendous efforts and was invited to the Beyond the veil show on Radio Ramadan to talk aboit her motivation and efforts. Zahra initially set out to raise money to build one well but raised enough to build three wells. These wells are currently under construction and updates have been provided regular. The ultimate aim was to encourage others children to help the community by doing charity work and also understand the poor conditions other children live in around the world.
